ILLUMINATING YORK
Monochrome Maison

Monochrome Maison was a durational dance performance exploring Bauhaus costume and the work of Oskar Schlemmer. Performed over four nights of the illuminate York Festival 2016, performers danced for four hours each night without stopping. The dance was inspired by the rigid form and structure of the Bauhaus movement, later becoming Bauhaus ballet. Alexander was one of the main performers as well as designing and making the costumes in a traditional Bauhaus style of angular shape and transformation of the body. The costumes used a black base with white embellishment and when performed under UV the white shapes were highlighted, glowing in the light.

Performances: Alexander Kaniewski, Chantelle Hubbard, Riyadh Johnson
